The Physician Extender (Athletic Trainer) provides care to patients exclusively within the medical practice setting. He/she cares for a variety of patients, incl. professional athletes, and their musculoskeletal injuries, supporting the supervising physician in clinic as part of the initial patient assessment, follow-up visits and post-operative care.
Responsibilities
- Will be able to demonstrate an ability to perform the following functions regarding athletic injuries: prevention, assessment, treatment, (including first aide) and reconditioning as set forth by the NATA Board of certification.
- Will demonstrate proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment.
- Will develop and carry out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the team/program/and physician supervisor.
- Will maintain NATA and CPR certification in accordance with those respective institutions.
- Perform administrative tasks such as keeping records and writing reports on injuries and treatment programs.
- Plan and implement comprehensive programs to prevent injury and illness among athletes and patients
- Will work exclusively in the clinic setting as designated by physician supervisor and practice leadership
Qualifications
Education:
- Required: Bachelor's degree in health-related field
Experience:
- Required: Minimum of 1 year working in a training capacity in a competitive athletic setting.
- Preferred: 1 year experience in orthopedic setting.
Certifications:
- Required: Certified by the Board of Certification of the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification.
- AHA BLS.
