Job Summary
Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, receives requests for and schedules various surgical procedures for appropriate operating rooms. Inputs schedule information into computer system and distributes to appropriate personnel.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1.Receives request from physicians, physician offices and/or Emergency Department to schedule operating rooms for specific patients.*
2.Prepares tentative schedule for operating rooms twenty-four hours in advance, considering time requirements of the surgical procedure and availability of medical staff/surgical personnel, surgical instruments and supplies to ensure efficient operating room usage. Checks physician privileges.*
3.Enters schedule information into computer system and distributes schedule to surgeons, surgical residents, anesthesiologists, anesthetists and other appropriate personnel.*
4.Adjusts schedule, as necessary, to accommodate emergencies or cancellations and notifies appropriate parties of changes.*
5.Maintains records regarding surgical boarding; assists in maintenance of other records, as assigned.*
6.May perform a variety of additional duties such as typing, surgical boarding, answering telephones and monitoring/routing fax messages in a timely manner.*
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent. Up to one year additional technical or specialty training, preferred.
2. One to two years related experience in a hospital or surgical office setting, including computer experience.

DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, Michigan’s first Level I Trauma Center, helped pioneer the evolution of emergency medicine and currently has one of the busiest and most well-equipped emergency departments anywhere. The first and largest verified burn center in the state is at Receiving, and it is one of only 43 in the nation. Receiving also offers the state’s leading 24/7 hyperbaric oxygen program, Metro Detroit’s first certified primary stroke center, and the nationally recognized and accredited DMC Rosa Parks Geriatric Center of Excellence.
