This position supports the Cardiology Clinic and Bariatric Clinic. The Billing Clerk greets patients and visitors in person or on the telephone; obtains demographic, financial and insurance information for registration and identification, coordinates and assists in the completion of all activities relating to patients' finances, to facilitate the collection and distribution of information and to expedite a smooth and timely billing and collection process while adhering to department policies and procedures. Access to demographic information and limited patient health information related to job function.

Responsibilities

• This position supports the Cardiology Clinic and Bariatric Clinic: 
• Obtains accurate messages
• Notifies staff with accurate information appropriately
• Backs up other clerical positions as needed 
• Interviews and registers patients
• Explains forms, obtains demographic and insurance information and inputs applicable patient accounting systems. Explains hospital deposit policy and collects appropriate monies from patients and/or responsible parties. 
• Verify accuracy of billing data and revise any errors
• Prepare itemized statements, bills, or invoices and record amounts due for items purchased or services rendered.
• Operate typing, adding, calculating, or billing machines. 

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Competency in spelling and arithmetic. 
• Good verbal, written and interpersonal skills. 
• Pleasant and courteous telephone manner. 

Preferred:

Data entry skills.
