Produces and creates cardiovascular diagnostic ultrasound digital images. Sonographer utilizes a variety of
technical modalities and specific procedures for ultrasound diagnosis. Responsible for patient care and their safety. Assists physicians during procedures. Assumes all responsibility for job related procedures and equipment. Participates in department orientation of new staff members. Demonstrates the ability to perform studies on pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics patients. Performs all types of Cardiac Stress testing,
Pharmacological Stress Testing, Tilt Tables, Transesophageal Echocardiograms, Echocardiograms, and
Electrocardiograms. Has the knowledge to report full diagnostic reports using the Cardiology Pac’s system, The
Case 8000, Muse system and the EMR. Works cooperatively with members of the health care team to maintain
standards of professional Cardiovascular Ultrasound studies, and Cardiac testing in the clinical setting.
Responsibilities
- Performs clinical Cardiovascular diagnostic ultrasound procedures as ordered by the physicians; positions appropriately; selects correct transducer; adjusts technical factors depending on depth of field or organ to be scanned; obtains adequate images and labels images appropriately. Demonstrates proficiency in all forms of ultrasound involving Echocardiography, Stress Echocardiography, Stress Echo Dobutamines, and Transesophageal studies,

- Tilt Tables
- Electrocardiograms
- Definity contrast studies
- Agitated Saline studies
- Cardiac Stress Tests
- Nuclear Stress Tests
- Pharmacological Stress Tests
- Transports medications between the pharmacy and the cardiology department.
- Schedules patients as necessary. Explains procedures to patients to assure cooperation and optimum tests results; re-schedule patients as necessary.
- Performs Agitated Saline Bubble Studies and Definity Contrast procedures competently, independently and without supervision.
- Maintains ultrasound service in accordance with the guidelines established by the Cardiology Department, and performs diagnostic cardiovascular ultrasound examinations according to pre-determined protocols as set forth by the Cardiologist, Technical Director and the Cardiac Service Director.
- Responsible for the proper utilization of existing equipment and reporting repair problems promptly to the
Technical Director. - Maintains proper records and performs all necessary measurements and calculations prior to presentation of the study to the reading cardiologist.
- Follows departmental directives in accordance with job functions.
- Performs and/or participates in the Cardiology services Process Improvement, Quality Assurance, Quality Control and other activities as may be required.
- Conforms, performs and/or participates in all mandated and/or voluntary programs of the Cardiology services to comply with the provisions of JCAHO, DHS, and any regulatory agency requirements.
- Verbalizes and/or demonstrates knowledge of clinical information and practices essential to assuming
provision of age-specific care from neonate to geriatrics. - Ability to take call weekends and after hours. Must be located 30 minutes away when taking call hours
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Diagnostic Medical sonography, or related Field.
Minimum Experience/Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of experience preferred; new graduates may be considered.
Proficient in 2D, Doppler, and color flow imaging; strong patient communication and technical documentation
Licenses/Certificates/Credentials:
- Must possess and maintain throughout the duration of employment:
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Provider issued by the American Heart Association
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI, or must possess RDCS or CCI certification within six (6) months of hire/ transfer.
