Reporting to the Nursing Director, this position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and
providing high quality, individualized patient care using the components of the nursing process.

Responsibilities

1. Maintains current professional licenses and/or certifications as and when required by state, regulatory 
agency, or hospital mandate. 
2. Demonstrates knowledge of, and adheres to, all applicable professional/regulatory practice acts, state/ 
federal regulations, and policies and procedures of San Ramon Regional Medical Center (SRRMC) and 
Tenet Corporation. 
3. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with members of 
the health care team and provides care based on that plan. 
4. Adheres to SRRMC practices for pain management with specific consideration of patient’s 
functional/developmental age, gender, cultural and/or personal preferences. 
5. Demonstrates appropriate use of restraints per SRRMC policy and procedures. 
6. Adheres to SRRMC practices for moderate sedation. Identifies resources for guidelines to ensure safe 
care and monitoring of patients. 
7. Identifies patients at risk for abuse as well as associated signs and symptoms. States mandatory 
reporting requirements for healthcare professionals. 
8. Ensures patient safety by assessing and proactively implementing safety measures with specific 
consideration of patient’s functional and developmental age. 
9. Provides appropriate nursing interventions. Competent in all routine nursing skills, including: (1) 
medication administration, (2) intravenous therapy, (3) management of indwelling catheters and drains, 
and (4) safe use of any medical equipment, such as glucose meters, IV pumps). 
10. Functions in the capacity of Charge Nurse per unit Charge Nurse guidelines, when assigned. Ensures 
that the operations and nursing care follow Medical Center and department policies and standards. Keeps Manager/Director informed when difficulties and/or unusual situations occur. Provides for allotted meal 
and break periods for staff. 
11. Demonstrates the ability to provide care in emergency situations and follows established emergency 
procedures. 
12. Provides compassionate and caring support to families. 
13. Determines the presence and type of Advance Directive, as appropriate. Contacts appropriate 
resources to assist the patient and family as needed. 
14. Completes legible, accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care provided to patients, 
including an evaluation of patients’ response to medications, treatments and procedures. 
15. Delegates patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of 
practice. Evaluates effectiveness of care performed. 
16. Accesses facility information systems to retrieve and utilize pertinent information for the provision of 
patient care or in the performance of other job related responsibilities. Follows Medical Center’s policy 
and procedure as they pertain to all hospital information systems. 
17. Practices Standard Precautions while providing patient care and performing other hospital services. 
18. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to safely and appropriately fulfill job specific responsibilities 
related to safety, security, emergency preparedness, control of hazardous materials/waste, life safety, 
medical equipment and utility systems as outlined in the hospital’s environment of care plan. 
19. Actively supports the organization’s mission, vision, values and goals. Participates in activities within 
the organization that support performance improvement. 
20. Attends mandatory TENET ethics program. Conducts all hospital business within the highest standard 
of ethical behavior. 
21. Assures that the rights of all patients are respected and maintained by allowing for privacy, 
confidentiality, and dignity in the provision of service. 
22. Protects hospital resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment. 
23. Maintains required applicable education and in-service requirements and participates in departmental 
staff meetings. 
24. Communicates and follows the organization’s chain of command for notification of patient care and/or 
service issues. 
25. Expresses and accepts feedback in a professional manner. 
26. Demonstrates the ability to organize workload, set priorities, and use time efficiently to complete work 
on time and in an organized manner. 
27. Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality. 
28. Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the professional environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: BSN preferred 

Minimum Experience/Skills: Minimum of one (1) years ER experience required within the past three (3) years 

Licenses/Certificates/Credentials: 

• Must possess and maintain throughout the duration of employment: 
• Current California RN license;
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Provider issued by the American Heart  Association; 
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certificate (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association;
• Current PALS or ENPC Certification (AHA certified);
• Current CPI card – Nonviolent Crises Intervention Training;
• CEN preferred.
